Striking Martial Art Styles
These styles are used by fighters to defend themselves while standing. The techniques include the use of blocks, knees, kicks, punches, and elbows. You will also learn other aspects of fighting while still learning these styles. The level of competence will depend on factors such as the instructor as well as the specific style. These styles include Boxing, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Kickboxing among others.
Grappling styles concentrate on teaching fighters how to take down the opponents. This helps them dominate the fight and they hold until the end of the fight. These styles include Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Jujutsu, Catch Wrestling, Sumo, Russian Sambo, and Luta Livre.
The fight always starts with the fighters on their feet. Fighters try to get the fight to the ground through throws and takedowns. There is some overlap between grappling and takedown styles. These styles include Aikido, Hapkido, Judo, and Shuai Jiao.
In some fights, fighters are allowed to use weapons. The type of weapon depends on the type of style. These styles are Kali, Laido, and Kendo.
Low-impact styles concentrate mostly on fewer combat techniques such as fitness, breathing performances, and spiritual elements. They include Baguazhang, Chi Gong-based styles, and Tai Chi.
Hybrid Fighting Styles
These are styles that use some of or all the above styles. They include MMA, Jeet Kune Do, Ninjutsu and shoot fighting.
